Conditions at Muzaffarnagar relief camps woefully inadequate

The Akhilesh Yadav government can cry hoarse over the various measures taken to rehabilitate victims of the Muzaffarnagar riots, but the reality on the ground contradicts his tall claims.

Several children have died due to the severe cold and lack of medical facilities, the make-shift toilets in the camp have sunk after heavy rains and there is no private area to bathe, the provisions for pregnant women and newborn babies are grossly inadequate and there is no arrangement for trauma counselling for rape survivors.

And these are only some of the many, many stark and bitter truths revealed by a visit to the camp.
