Enrico Piperno fails to get Kazakh visa for tennis tourney

The Indian Fed Cup team captain Enrico Piperno has failed to get a visa from Kazakhstan for the Asia-Oceania group II tennis competition that is on in Astana from February 4 to 8.

The Hindu reports that apart from Piperno, two other players in the Indian side -- Prerna Bhambri and Shweta Rana -- have also not got a Kazakh visa.

Efforts to secure a visa-on-arrival for them did not work out, leaving the team a little lost.

The original team named by AITA comprised Sania Mirza as captain, and Ankita Raina, Prarthana Thombare and Rishika Sunkara, but the selectors who met in Mumbai on January 11 named Piperno as the captain and included the two other players.

It is possibly this that led to the visa not being granted to the new additions, since the original team members were given a Kazakh visa.
