Cold wave eases in Kashmir Valley

There was a slight respite from the cold wave in Kashmir Valley as the minimum temperature rose in most places, even as the mercury in Kargil, in the frontier region of Ladakh, settled at minus 19 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night's, an official of the MeT Department said in Srinagar.

Mercury in Qazigund - the gateway town to Kashmir valley - settled at minus 8.4 degrees Celsius, up by one degree from minus 9.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.

Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 9.2 degrees Celsius, an increase of over one degree from the previous nights minus 10.6 degrees Celsius.

The mercury in the tourist resort of Pahalgam recorded a minimum of minus 10 degrees Celsius, over a degree up from minus 11.2 degrees Celsius the previous night.

The mercury in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg also increased by over a degree to register a low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius as compared to minus 6.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.
