December 26, 2014  22:52
The Mumbai police today ordered a probe into allegations that an Inspector accepted a bribe of 'crores of rupees' to grant favours to the accused arrested in the last year's IPL betting case during their inquiry.

"Following the allegations (made on a news portal that an officer of Crime Branch took bribes of crores of rupees), I have ordered my DCP to find out the facts," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sadanand Date said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Dhananjay Kulkarni will head the probe.

"We will ask the writer (of the report in which the allegations have been made) to provide us evidence or tell the source of information to substantiate his claims. We will also question the officer with regards to the allegations," he said.

The next course of action would be decided depending upon the information that would emerge during the inquiry by Kulkarni, said another officer.
