Pakistani government will on Monday challenge the bail of 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi.

Pakistan High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, had yesterday said that Lakhvi was put under house arrest shortly after he was granted bail by Islamabad anti-terrorism court on December 18.

The court cited lack of evidence as the reason behind granting bail.

The move had triggered outrage and India had expressed concern.

Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Affairs and National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, later clarified that the Mumbai attack mastermind was not released.

He further added that the government was reviweing a petition against bail granted by the court.

Menwhile, Lakhvi continues to remain under detention at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order for three more months.

Lakhvi is one of the seven people who were charged with planning and helping in the November 26, 2008 Mumbai terror attack which killed 166 people.
