2 down, 2998 to go: Pakistan begins executions of convicted terrorists

Preparations to execute Aqeel alias Dr Usman, a former soldier of the army's medical corps, in relation to an attack on the headquarters of the Pakistan Army in 2009 in Rawalpindi are complete, the Dawn reports.

The execution will be carried out in the next 24 hours.

Arshad Mehmood, convicted for an assassination attempt on former military ruler, General (retd.) Pervez Musharraf will also be hanged today.

Pakistan's government fast-tracked warrants of execution for 3000 convicted terrorists Thursday, moving swiftly on its promise to crack down on militants after 141 people, mostly schoolchildren were massacred Tuesday in Peshawar.
