The Supreme Court has divested a Madhya Pradesh High Court judge, accused of sexual misdemeanour, from undertaking an administrative and supervisory role.

The SC also said that the Chief Justice of the MP High Court "has travelled beyond his jurisdiction in constituting a two-judge panel to probe the role of the judge in the case. The CJI may constitute another panel to look into sexual harassment allegations against the sitting MP HC Judge.

The case refers to a woman additional district and sessions judge in Gwalior who had to quit her job after she accused a judge of the Madhya Pradesh high court of sexual harassment. The judge has denied the charge and even offered to face death penalty if found true.

The woman judge had written to the Chief Justice of India explaining the reasons that forced her to resign from judicial service.
