Tony Abbott convenes National Security Committee

Australia's National Security Committee has met to discuss what Prime Minister Tony Abbott has declared a "deeply concerning incident" in Sydney's Martin Place.

Abbott issued a short statement confirming that the National Security Committee of cabinet had met to discuss the siege. The committee consists of Abbott, Deputy Prime Minster Warren Truss, Foreign Minister Julia Bishop, Attorney-General George Brandis, Treasurer Joe Hockey, Defence Minister David Johnston and Immigration and Border Protection Minister Scott Morrison.
