BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj says sorry for calling Godse a patriot

Proceedings in both Houses of Parliament were on Friday disrupted over remarks made by BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj and Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik.

Following relentless uproar, Sakshi Maharaj regretted his statement on Nathuram Godse in Lok Sabha, and withdrew his remarks.

He added that the "Opposition has no other issue left".

Later, Union minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the government condemned Sakshi Maharaj's statement.

"The minister has apologised. The party (BJP) and government do not agree with minister's remarks."

While Maharaj had yesterday said that Mahatma Gandhi's killer Nathuram Godse was a 'nationalist', Naik had expressed his wish for Ram temple, saying the nation wishes that it should be built at Ayodhya.
