Dineshwar Sharma is new IB chief

Senior IPS officer Dineshwar Sharma is learnt to have been appointed as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau. He will succeed incumbent IB chief Syed Asif Ibrahim, who will retire later this month.

Sharma, a 1979 batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre, is presently Special Director in the IB. As per the procedure, Sharma will now work as Officer on Special Duty to acclimatise himself in the office of Director IB.

Sources said the decision was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday after consultations.
