The Times of India has made news yet again. This time, for enforcing a social media policy that has left its journalists feeling queasy.

The management has told the huge army of journalists working for the newspaper across the country to hand over their Twitter and Facebook passwords, so that the company may post on their behalf.

Even after they leave the company, writes qz.com.

Apparently, Bennet Coleman and Company, which publishes the ToI, Economic Times and owns many other media properties, including on TV, unveiled a contract last week that told staffers not to post any news links on their personal Twitter and FB accounts.

Instead, they should start a company-authorised account on various social media platforms on which they are free to discuss news and related things. They are also free to convert their personal accounts as the official one.

The log-in and other access details of these accounts will rest with the company, which will also be free to post any content to these accounts without the journalists' knowledge.
