J&K govt to announce amnesty for stone-pelters: Minister

The Jammu and Kashmir government today said that it would soon announce an amnesty for persons involved in stone-pelting incidents and withdraw cases registered against them.

"The state government has decided to grant amnesty to the youths involved in such cases (stone pelting) and withdraw the FIRs registered against them,"Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said in the Assembly.

He said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would soon announce the scheme. The minister, however, did not give any more details about the scheme. Sagar was replying on a discussion on the issue of amnesty for the stone pelters raised by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
