New eight-member body to replace scrapped planning commission

The planning commission will now be replaced with an eight-member think-tank that will include top economists, a social activist and a scientist. Sources say that the think-tank will have a chairman and eight members, sources say. Four of these members will be permanent and the rest, revolving. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the end of the planning commission in his Independence Day speech on Friday.
