Jammu and Kashmir should have a Hindu CM, says Congress

The Jammu and Kashmir Congress has batted for a Hindu chief minister in the state, saying if a person from minority community can become the prime minister, the state could have a Hindu CM.

"If a person representing a minority community can be the prime minister of the country, why cannot a Hindu be the chief minister of the state," Congress leader and state minister Sham Lal Sharma said.

"If A R Antulay, belonging to a community which constitutes two per cent of population in Maharashtra, can be the CM... why cannot there be a Hindu CM here," Sharma said at a public rally in Akhnoor border belt of Jammu district yesterday.

His demand comes in the wake of heavy polarisation of voters on communal lines in Jammu region during the Lok Sabha election which saw BJP bagging the Jammu and Udhampur seats.
