The wheels within wheels of sacking Kamla Beniwal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had briefed President Pranab Mukherjee about Mizoram governor Kamla Beniwal.

For over 15 days, there was a flurry of of visit between Union Minister law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and attorney general Mukul Rohatgi at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Following the meeting, Thomas Mathews, additional secretary to te President went to the Supreme Court chambers to meet the Attorney General. It was only after considerable documents were submitted that the President was convinced about sacking Beniwal. Arun Jaitley had also been roped in.

The President in his handwritten note said he was satisfied with the evidence provided by the government. Pranab Mukherjee ensured he got a legal opinion as well before he gave his nod to sack her.
