Direct Guj govt to act neutrally against Modi: Congress
April 30, 2014  18:34
ith an aim of ensuring that Narendra Modi is not let off, the Congress today asked the Election Commission to direct Gujarat government to act neutrally on the alleged election model code of conduct violation by him.

Modi has "shred into pieces" the model code, Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken told reporters. He said displaying BJP's election symbol 'Lotus' and making a speech after casting his vote in Gandhinagar is a "big violation" of electoral law.

Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, landed in a soup with the Election Commission ordering the Gujarat administration to file a complaint or FIR against him for violating poll laws. It wanted compliance report by 6 pm today.

Another General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed said that Modi is a "habitual and serial violator" of the model code. He said that a wrong impression will go around if the Commission failed to take action against the BJP's PM candidate.
