53 pc voter turnout in Mumbai, breaks 2009 record of 41.5 pc

The voter turnout in Mumbai may be dismal as compared to other metros that went to polls today or earlier. But the last minute surge in voters registered a turnout of 53 per cent in its six seats, as polling ended in the sixth phase of the general elections.

The city improved on the 41.5 per cent voter turnout per cent in 2009.

Mumbai North Central and Mumbai South Central saw 55 per cent voting, and in a late surge, Mumbai South registered a 54 per cent turnout after lagging through the day. Mumbai North-West was the lowest at 50 per cent, reports NDTV.

The 19 Maharashtra seats averaged 56.26 per cent voter turnout.
