Kamal Pandey, former cabinet secretary in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, who was unceremoniously shunted out by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh may be a likely candidate for the post of principal secretary.

Senior BJP leaders like LK Advani want Kamal Pandey to be decorated with this top slot. N Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner, Ashok Chawla, former finance secretary - both from Gujarat Cadre are considered close to Modi, are likely candidates too.

Former agriculture secretary PK Misra and RN Das, former food secretary, are other likely options.
