April 01, 2014  13:54
BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi addressed  a rally in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh today, followed by another one in Madhya Pradesh later during the day.

Modi began his speech by apologising to the people for arriving late at the venue since they had to wait in the sun. "I assure you I will try my best to see that your expectations do not go waste," he said.

Modi said that he had a special connection with Bareilly. "The manjhaa used for the kites in our state's kite festival come from Bareilly. Without the manjhaa from Bareilly, kites in Gujarat cannot fly," he said.

Hitting out at the Congress he sai, "Jab chunaav aata hai toh Congress waale mantr japna shuru kar dete hain 'gareeb gareeb gareeb gareeb'. (When the elections are nearing, the Congress begins chanting the mantra of poverty).

Since the rally is on All Fools Day, Modi said that for the Congress, 365 days are April Fools day."

"They keep talking about the poor only before the elections and their leaders says poverty is a state of mind," he said.
