'Dr Singh, please step down'

In a strongly worded article, senior journalist Shekhar Gupta has implored Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to step down from his post after his return from the United Nations General Assembly in New York, in the wake of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's tactless remarks about the ordinance on convicted legislators.

"It would be heartbreaking for all those who admire him for his dignity, integrity and intellect -- whatever the criticism of his lack of articulation or decisiveness -- if he chose to simply carry on," says Gupta.
