Aadhar not mandatory for govt services: Supreme Court

In a setback to the central government, the Supreme Court on Monday stated that possession of an Aadhar card was not mandatory for availing essential government services like marriage registration, provident fund account and gas connection.

Both central and state governments had attempted to make Aadhar card compulsory for various government amenities.
