Indian American beauty is new Miss America!

Indian American Nina Davuluri has been crowned Miss America.

Davuluri, who represented New York in the competition, is the first person of Indian descent to win the beauty pageant.

Davuluri performed a Bollywood fusion dance for the talent segment of the competition.

In the early stages of the competition, Davuluri and her friends were involved in an ugly spat, when they were accused of calling outgoing Miss America Mallory Hagan 'fat'.

Davuluri subsequently apologised for the comment. Pageant organisers conducted a probe into the matter and found no wrongdoing on her part.
