Taslima Nasreen's Assam visit cancelled

The proposed visit of self-exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to Assam  stands cancelled after the Assam government declined permission citing security reasons. 

The Bangladeshi writer, who has taken asylum in India to escape fundamentalist in her own country, was scheduled to grace a function in Guwahati on the  occasion of 72nd birth anniversary of the celebrated Assamese writer and Jnanpith Awardee Late Mamoni Raisom Goswami on November 14. 

The function is being organised by South East Asia Ramayani Research Centre and magazine Byatikram in coordination with the family members of Mamoni Raisom Goswami. Soumen Bharatia of Byatikram magazine termed the attitude of Assam government vis--vis the proposed visit of Taslima Nasreen 'very unfortunate and 'non-cooperative'.
