Anita Katyal reports:

The Congress has managed to tame the rebellious former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi who wanted the party to project him as CM in the year-end assembly elections while pressing for tickets for his wife and son.

As part of the compromise, the Congress today announced the candidature of Jogi's son Amit Jogi from the Marwahi seat while his wife Renu Jogi has been fielded from Kota. In return, Jogi will have to sit out in the assembly polls and will, therefore, not be in the race for the CM's post.

Jogi will instead contest the Lok Sabha elections next year. It had become necessary for the Congress to strike a deal with Jogi or else he could have played spoiler in the coming crucial assembly election.
