US Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Europe next week, making him unavailable in Washington during the all-important visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the period.

Sharif, who was elected as the prime minister of Pakistan early this year, is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama at the White House on October 23.

It was Kerry who had extended an invitation to Sharif to meet with Obama during the UN General Assembly session in New York.

The Pakistani prime minister is expected to arrive in the US early next week or over the weekend, during which he is likely to hold a series of meeting with top US lawmakers, senior officials of the Obama administration and interact with the think-tanks and the Pakistani American community.
