US admiral incharge of nuclear weapons sacked

An American admiral who was among those overseeing the country's nuclear weapons has been sacked.Vice Admiral Tim Giardina, who was the second in command of America's strategic command, was relieved of his responsibilities following his being probed for illegal gambling activities, it has been reported.

Giardina, it is charged, used a significant number of counterfeit gambling chips at a casino in Iowa. Following the charges and pending investigation,

Giardina has been demoted to a two-star general. Prior to his sacking as the deputy in charge of the US strategic command, Giardina had been suspended from duty on September 3.
