The Supreme Court accepted an  apology tendered by former chief of army staff General V.K. Singh on Wednesday.

It dropped the contempt proceedings as soon as it received the apology from General Singh.

The contempt notice was issued after the apex court took suo motu cognizance of General Singh accusing the court of malafide intent with regard to his date of birth.

"Once an apology is tendered from heart", and all that has been said by the general is withdrawn, "I don''t think that matter should be pursued even for a minute", said Justice RM Lodha, who headed the bench that initiated the contempt proceedings against General Singh.

The apex court also disallowed an attempt by a lawyer to raise the issues about what the general had said on other occasions.

"This is a matter exclusively between the court and the contemenor (General Singh)" and "surely we don''t want to enlarge the scope of the hearing", said Justice Lodha and Justice H.L. Gokhale
