Not a belieber: Mexico denies Bieber met president

Sorry Justin Bieber, Mexico's president is apparently not a belieber.

The Canadian pop star's controversy-filled tour of Latin America took a new twist in Mexico after Bieber's claim that he met with President Enrique Pena Nieto was swiftly denied by the government.

Before a Mexico City show late yesterday, Bieber, who calls his fans "beliebers," wrote partially in Spanish to his 47 million followers on Twitter, saying he had met with Pena Nieto and his family.

"Just met some amazing mexican beliebers and the presidente of mexico and his familia. now it is showtime. 60,000 tonight. night 1. te amo," the 19-year-old star wrote.

But El Presidente's office tweeted minutes later to its 845,289 followers: "@PresidenciaMX denies a meeting between the holder of the executive @EPN and the singer @justinbieber."

The president, it turns out, was meeting with his cabinet at his official residence of Los Pinos. Bieber will perform again today in the Mexican capital as part of this "Believe Tour," which brought throngs of adoring and screeching fans outside his hotel in the ritzy district of Polanco early yesterday.
