Magnus Carlsen finally came upto expectations and beat Viswanathan Anand in the fifth game of the World Chess Championships in Chennai.

Playing in white the Norwegian finally edged clear with seven rounds left.   The first four games had all ended in a stalemate.

In fact the defending champion had dug himself out of a hole in the fourth game to earn what seemed an inspiring draw.   However, instead of carrying forward the advantage he let it slip.   It stands at 3-2 after five rounds.
