Simply following orders, says govt

The Maharashtra government says it is simply following the orders of the Supreme Court. Actual demolition may not begin today. What is likely to happen to today is vacate the flats, the water, gas and electricity connections will be cut off and only then will the internal walls of the flats be broken.

Clashes between residents and the police continue. The authorities are in no mood to back down today since they maintain they are only enforcing the Supreme Court order. Residents have maintained that the support of politicians like Congress MP Milind Deora and state housing minister Sachin Ahir have lent them courage to continue their fight.
