Just in: The BJP expels Supreme Court lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani from the party for anti-party statements. Jethmalani, who has been expelled from the primary membership of the party, had recently criticised the BJP's stand on corruption. Jethmalani will be an independent RS MP from now on.

On May 7, Jethmalani took the party by surprise when he walked into its Parliamentary Party meeting and attacked the leadership for being soft on the UPA government on the corruption issue.

Jethmalani had been suspended from the party in November last year for asking for Nitin Gadkari's resignation.
