Jessica Lal murder: Actor Shayan Munshi charged with perjury

The Delhi High Court today ordered a case of perjury against Bollywood actor Shayan Munshi and ballistics expert Prem Sagar Minocha. 17 other witnesses have been acquitted in the Jessica Lal murder case.

The court charged two on turning hostile during their deposition in model Jessica Lal's murder trial. The court had suo motu taken cognizance of the matter and sought to prosecute 19 witnesses for perjury who turned hostile, questioning the prosecution how did so many of its witnesses performed a somersault in trial.

Model Jessica Lal was shot dead at Tamarind Court, a restaurant owned by socialite Bina Ramani, in south Delhi's Mehrauli area on the night of April 29-30, 1999.She was shot dead by Manu Sharma, son of Haryana's Congress leader Venod Sharma after she refused to serve a drink to him in the party.

The Delhi High Court had awarded life imprisonment to Manu Sharma for killing the model. Actor Shayan Munshi had lodged the FIR in the case.
