Dawes leaving Mail & Guardian for Indian paper

Dawes informed staff at the weekly newspaper and digital news provider on Friday that he is to step down from his post.

Dawes will leave the paper in September, after nine years on staff, half of them as editor, to join the Hindustan Times in New Delhi.

"My time at the Mail & Guardian both as a frontline reporter and as editor has been the most fulfilling of my professional life. This is an organisation which places great journalism at the centre of everything it does, but which also has the courage and the creativity to engage with the deep changes that are challenging and revitalising the news business.
