Sanjay Dutt can file a curative petition, but such petitions are only entertained when there is a serious lapse in judgment. Dutt will now go to jail on May 15 for a period of 42 months. The actor was convicted by the TADA court for illegal possession a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle which was part of the consignment of weapons and explosives brought to India for coordinated serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700.

The 53-year-old film star has already spent about 18 months in jail and has to serve three and a half years more. He has to surrender by May 15.
