Voting is underway on the US resolution pulling up Sri Lanka for human rights violations, at the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva.

While Pakistan has voted against the resolution, India will vote for it and move an amendment seeking an independent and credible probe commission to go into the charges of human rights violations committed against the Tamil minority in the island nation.

During the debate in Geneva, India said, "We encourage Sri Lanka to expedite the process of broad-based, inclusive and meaningful reconciliation, we note Sri Lanka's invitation to the UN Human Rights Commissioner and we urge her to undertake it as early as possible."
