Mumbai: Asaram Bapu's followers attack mediapersons

A group of followers of Asaram Bapu today allegedly assaulted mediapersons and damaged their equipment, apparently angry at criticism over wastage of water at a pre-Holi function by the self-styled godman in drought-hit Maharashtra.

Asaram Bapu's followers pelted stones at television news channel reporters and assaulted them, damaging their video cameras, the police said.

Three suspects have been detained and a probe is on, a officer at the Rabale police station said.

The godman has drawn flak for the pre-Holi event organised at the Airoli grounds in Navi Mumbai at a time when Maharashtra is facing its worst-ever drought in more than four decades.
