Pakistani troops today violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) by resorting to unprovoked firing for nearly 30 minutes in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

"Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts along the LoC between Saidan and Doda in Poonch sector at 10.45 am," they said. Indian troops fired back to silence the Pakistani guns and the exchange of fire between the two sides continued till 11:15 am. There was, however, no report of any casualty on the Indian side. This is the second time in as many days that Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the LoC.

The incident came at a time when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is on a two-day tour of the state.

Yesterday, there was small arms firing on Indian posts in Durga Battalion area in Poonch brigade belt around 1515 hours. The latest incident is the fifth ceasefire violation in June. Earlier this month, a Junior Commissioned Officer was killed when Pakistan opened heavy fire with automatic weapons and rockets on Indian posts along the LoC in Poonch sector.
