Parkash Singh Badal to be NDA convener?

With the Janata Dal (United) out of the National Democratic Alliance and Sharad Yadav stepping down as the convener, the vacancy of this top assignment is being actively eyed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, head of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and long-time ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In fact, top-level sources in the SAD have indicated to The Hindu that Mr. Badal has been sent informal feelers and he will be taking a firm decision after consulting the party once he returns from an overseas holiday on June 22. More
