Monsoon fury continues in north India. Heavy rains wreaked havoc in the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, leaving over 50 people dead and hundreds stranded, while several parts in Haryana were flooded after the water level of the Yamuna rose alarmingly.

Flash floods in the Ganga and its tributaries triggered by incessant rains for over 48 hours left a trail of death and devastation across Uttarakhand killing 30 people, injuring 19 and damaging 164 buildings.

In Himachal, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who was stranded in tribal Kinnaur district for nearly 60 hours due to landslides triggered by incessant
rains, was evacuated this morning even as 1700 people remained
stranded at various places. A chopper hired by the Congress party airlifted the chief minister this morning as rains abated and weather cleared and about a dozen persons, including some old and ailing persons were brought to Rampur in the state.

In Haryana and UP, the government has asked people to evacuate from low-lying areas. The Yamuna has crossed the danger mark in New Delhi.
