Veteran communist leader Satypal Dang, who was at the forefront of the battle against terrorism and secessionism in Punjab, passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness.

In a statement, CPI paid tribute to the late leader.

"Com. Satpal Dang, a freedom fighter, a firebrand Communist leader and great fighter of human rights, breathed his last today at the age of 93 years, in Amritsar, which was the area of his activities for most part of his life.

"He stood like a rock against Khalistani terrorists and fought them ideologically, along with his comrades ignoring all threat to his life.

"A fearless fighter for genuine causes, he lived a very simple life along with his life partner Comrade Vimla Dang, another legend in her own right.

"Com Satpal Dang remained as a proud member of the Communist Party of India till his last breath.

"The national council of the Communist Party of India pays its homage to this great son of India".
