US 'orders Verizon to disclose millions of phone records'

The US National Security Agency is collecting the telephone records of tens of millions of Americans, according to the Guardian newspaper.

On Wednesday, the newspaper publishedthe secret order directing the Verizon company to hand over telephone data.

Senior US Senator Dianne Feinstein has confirmed the secret court order was a three-month renewal of an ongoing practice.
