Cong: Be very scared, Modi wants POTA, TADA back
June 05, 2013  13:49
Union I&B minister Manish Tewari says it is time to sit back and think and consider with fear that Narendra Modi wants TADA and POTA back. The Congress is opposed to it.

The Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2002 (POTA) was an anti-terrorism legislation enacted by the Parliament of India in 2002. The act replaced the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO) of 2001 and the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) (1985-95), and was supported by the governing NDA. The act was repealed in 2004 by the UPA. The acts have been draconian and one of the key problem areas with POTA was that under it, a confession made to the police was accepted in a court of law as an admission of guilt.
