The Cabinet is likely to clear ordinance for Sonia Gandhi's dream food security bill today.
The bill promises rice at Rs. 3 a kg and wheat at Rs. 2 a kg, less than 10 per cent of current retail prices, to about 810 million people.
The BJP is in favour of passing the food security bill, but with some amendments. They want a debate on the legislation.
The Left and UPA's external ally the Samajwadi Party are opposed to the Bill.
