President Pranab Mukherjee called P Sathasivam to congratulate him on his elevation as Chief Justice of India. During the conversation, Sathasivam requested Mukherjee to allow him to take the oath at 9:30 am on Friday, instead of 11 am.

The chief justice says the working hours of the Supreme Court will not be disturbed on Friday if swearing-in ceremony is held at 9:30 am and the second reason, is the "inauspicious time of Rahu Kalam on Friday is between 10:30 and 12:00 pm." The president has agreed.
