Slain Dalit youth Ilavarasan's body buried

The body of Ilavarasan, the Dalit youth from Dharampuri district of Tamil Nadu who was found dead under mysterious conditions 11 days ago, was buried at his native village Natham that has been tense following his death.

The young man's parents have alleged that he was murdered and have pointed fingers at the upper caste and dominant Vanniyar community to which his wife belongs.

His ex-wife, Divya did not attend the funeral.

The district administration had denied permission to Dalit leaders to visit the area ahead of the funeral.

The police had tried to arrest former IAS officer and Samooka Samathuvapadi Katchi founder P Sivakami as she tried to attend the funeral. However, angry villagers prevented the police from doing so.
