US Homeland Security chief resigns

US Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano has declared that she is resigning from the cabinet to take up a job in academics.   

Napolitano, a former governor of Arizona, has said that she was being nominated as the president of the University of California.   

Napolitano had served as Homeland Security secretary since Obama took office in 2009.
