Obama calls up Putin to discuss Snowden

US President Barack Obama has called up Russian President Vladimir Putin and urged him not to grant asylum to whistle-blower Edward Snowden.

Snowden had leaked details of the NSA's PRISM surveillance programme to the international press.

Snowden is currently residing in the transfer lounge of the Moscow airport. He has sought temporary refuge from Russian authorities.
