Probe into private copter rescue 'racket'

The Uttarakhand government is probing allegations against private chopper operators accused of pocketing lakhs of rupees for rescue operations from relatives of stranded Kedarnath and Badrinath pilgrims. 

Confirming the probe, chief secretary Subhash Kumar said: "An aviation department probe has been ordered to fi nd out the veracity of the allegations." 

The state government move comes after aviation minister Ajit Singh wrote to the Uttrakhand CM about a private operator reportedly charging money from kin of a family stranded in Badrinath. After fl ash fl oods ravaged Kedarnath, private choppers were the first to reach the spot.
