Sheela Bhatt reports: Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has reiterated that he will not be contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to media persons in New Delhi, he said: "I am not going to contest the next election. Naye logon ko lena achcha hoga (it will be good to pick new people). I will continue as head of the party. I want to be away from my parliamentary party. I don't know what will happen to us. This is my desire. My successor will be decided by my party."

When someone mentioned Praful Patel's name, Pawar said: "Yes, Praful can take over; (on prodding) I am saying Praful CAN take over from me."

Making his assessment on the Lok Sabha election outcome, Pawar said: "The party that will get 170/180 seats will form the next government in New Delhi. There is a possibility that Congress might reach that number!"
