I think Tamil Nadu wants me out, says Kamal Haasan

With the Tamil Nadu government deciding to appeal the court nod for his film Viswaroopam, actor Kamal Haasan addressed the media to push for his cause.

Well-known for his rationalist and atheist views, the actor said, "Various reasons have been told me as to why all this is happening, none of them makes any sense to me."

"It is a political game, and I am not even sure who is playing it,' he said.

His latest film has raised the hackles of some Muslim organisations, but Kamal Hassan said he did not want to divide the country on religious lines.

"I have hawked my house to a money-lender to make this film and it is two months since it is overdue. I have pawned all my properties to him in case he doesn't get his money back, and I stand to lose my house," the actor said.

"I truly wonder how just one movie can knock this mighty nation's unity aside," Kamal Haasan wondered out loud.

"I shall now wait for the judgment in the afternoon,' he said. "After that I may have to look for another state, a more secular one, and if I don't find it I may have to find a more secular nation. MF Husain had done it, I may have to do it. But I will always remain an Indian,' he said.

"I think Tamil Nadu wants me out,' the actor said in response to a question and answer.
